Reviewer Selection, Qualifications
and Responsibilities
Your interest in the discretionary grants review program is encouraged,
welcomed, and appreciated. Reviewer qualifications are key to the
process, as is the commitment to fulfill the responsibilities intrinsic
to the grant review.
The Reviewer Selection Process:
- A government agency identifies a program in need of reviewers.
- Using the GrantReview.net registrants, LCG evaluates reviewers
with the appropriate expertise and creates a pool of qualified
reviewers.
- LCG contacts all potential reviewers in this group to check
availability for the grant review session.
- A list of available reviewers is presented to the agency, and
the government program staff selects the reviewers.
Reviewers are selected based on their expertise communicated
via GrantReview.net and the individual’s current résumé
or curriculum vitae.
Additionally, reviewers are chosen based on their ability
to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Evaluate and apply criteria related to program requirements
- Read and analyze applications
- Provide clear and concise feedback, including definitive
written strengths and weaknesses
- Communicate effectively in a group process (i.e., able
to be cooperative, constructive, and flexible)
- Maintain confidentiality
Although your name may be in the Grantreview.net database, your
area of program specialization, the number of reviewers needed for
a grant announcement, and your availability may limit your opportunities
to serve as a panel reviewer. In addition, due to the large number
of qualified reviewer candidates available, we regret that only
a small number of individuals can be asked to participate. If we
are unable to use your expertise and experience, you will be notified.
