Grant Review Process
There are generally three (3) types of grant reviews used to evaluate
discretionary grant applications: on-site, remote, and hybrid (a
combination of on-site and remote).
On-site Reviews:
Join us in the nation's capital! Experts from across the country
come to Washington, D.C. to read and evaluate grant applications.
On-site Review Details:
- Review sessions generally last five days (depending on the
number of applications for review) on-site in a conference facility/hotel.
- Reviewers participate in panels with other experts and a designated
Federal or non-Federal facilitator.
- Following the independent evaluation of an application by each
Reviewer, the Facilitator moderates a full Panel discussion before
a final summary is compiled reflecting the panel’s scores
and comments.
- Applications are evaluated based on the pre-determined Government
criteria, and scores are entered into LCG’s Grant Application
Management Evaluation System (GAMES) through an easy-to-use Internet
module.
Remote Reviews:
Read and evaluate grant applications from the comfort of your
own home or office! Experts receive applications by mail and evaluate
them online, therefore panelists for this type of review must be
Internet-savvy, and have access to a computer and the Internet.
Remote Review Details:
- Review sessions generally last for two-to-three weeks, and
evaluations are submitted online from the Reviewers’ remote
location.
- Reviewers participate in panels with other experts and a designated
Federal or non-Federal facilitator, who communicates via email
or scheduled conference calls.
- Following the independent evaluation of an application by each
Reviewer, the Facilitator moderates any panel discussion before
a final summary is compiled that reflects the panel’s scores
and comments.
- Applications are evaluated based on the pre-published Program
criteria, and scores are entered into LCG’s Grant Application
Management Evaluation System (GAMES) through an easy-to-use Internet
module.
Hybrid Reviews:
A new type of review, hybrids incorporate the benefits of reading
and scoring applications from your home with the opportunity to
network with your peers during an on-site discussion of the panel’s
assigned applications.
- Applications are generally evaluated in the Reviewer’s
remote location and scored over a two-to-three-week period.
- Following the deadline for review/scoring completion, panelists
meet on-site for three days to discuss the final independent reviews
and compile the final summary.
- Applications are evaluated based on the pre-published Program
criteria, and scores are entered into LCG’s Grant Application
Management Evaluation System (GAMES) through an easy-to-use Internet
module.
